Police have been tellingly quiet because they know that if they released that officer's name he would be lynched! They have also been quiet because there investigation is not complete and there is no reason to ruin the lives of another family (that of the officer who did the shooting) until the investigation determines whether or not he is deserving of all the hatred being spewed towards the people who attempt to protect law abiding citizens everyday!
I would think that you would be more concerned with government officials using our tax money to pay for a private citizen's funeral. I have family members who were diligent public servants their whole lives and didn't get their funerals paid for... -Guess I should find a crack dealer to shack up with so that my kids don't have to foot the bill when I kick the bucket!

jeh,
I see no problem with the city paying for the funeral if the city is responsible for her death. In fact, I think all murderers should be held liable and pay for the funerals and medical expenses of those they kill.

It is a shame you feel that an incident that stemmed from an occupational hazard that comes with living a life riddled with crime and surrounding yourself with scum of all varieties is the City's responsibility. Maybe the family should file for Workman's comp on Tarika's behalf also! She was living with a career criminal (if she was not one herself..).
She made the choice to live the life that lead to her death. Her irresponsible choices were not the fault, nor are they the responsibility of the City or the police who protect it.
If you want to call anyone a murderer call Anthony Terry a murderer, he is the one who brought that specific trouble to the home. Maybe you could call the lawmakers who made crack and marijuana illegal murders also- after all it was their decision to make those drugs illegal and if they would just back off then "poor Tarika" and "poor hard-working Anthony" could have had a nice life...

It's a shame that you measure the loss of life based on whether that person was living a lifestyle that agrees with your own. I don't care what kind of life she lead or why she was in that house. The fact of the matter is that police, who were not looking for her, shot and killed her without provocation. You can't possibly rationalize that away.
She is dead and the city accidentally killed her. The city should at least pay to bury her.
And you are right. If drugs were legal, as they should be in a free society, then she would still be alive today.

I agree with "jeh". He is not making a value judgment on her life, he is simply saying "When you lie with pigs, you get dirty".
Terry was a criminal operating a crack house, and to raise a kid and be present in that home puts you and your child in danger.
Spending MY TAX MONEY for the funeral expenses of her is not something I support. I DO SUPPORT using my tax dollars to raid and eradicate crack houses, and when this happens it is tragic, yet inevitable, that at some point someone will get hurt and/or killed.

It's not so much that she was living a lifestyle that didn't suit me- that is her business. I don't like that my tax dollars have to pay for her poor choices in company- which I maintain is the reason LPD was there in the first place.
What is none of any of our business to judge yet is whether or not there was provocation. There is an investigation going on right now to determine whether or not the shooting was provoked or not and-not offense- but unless you have a scoop that has not been released to the rest of us yet- what provoked the fatal shots has yet to be released.
If the officer was not justified in shooting then I feel he will be dealt with but I don't agree with calling him a murderer. He didn't execute her, I doubt that he planned to kill her, and I can't rationally say that I think people who react as humans do, and made a mistake- while tragic- is a "murderer" A murderer is someone who has no remorse and takes life with no thought or care about it. I seriously doubt this cop is that callous. I guess it is your choice of words I have the issue with. I could care less what her lifestyle is- until the town tries to crucify the police with no mention of the accountability she and Terry held in the violence that took place that night. In a free society we should also be accountable for our actions and the consequences of them. When you are going to get into the business of assigning blame I think all players should get equal time. With the rights to choose your lifestyle come certain responsibilities- including being accountable for the consequences of those choices you make. Choosing to associate with a known felon has certain risks and that is fine for her- until my tax money has to pay for her mistakes. Then I am paying the consequences of her actions and I am not ok with that any more then I am ok with dehumanizing LPD and making them sound like a bunch of villians on a murderous crusade.

JEH,
I understand what you are saying, but none of that negates the fact that she should still be alive.
I have never called the officer a murderer. However, he did negligently kill someone by failing to identify his target. And he should be prosecuted, like anyone else who negligently does something and ends up killing someone.
For example, if you are speeding and you kill someone, you will be prosecuted.
The sergeant should never have discharged his weapon until he was sure of his target. We have prosecuted soldiers in Iraq for the same thing and they are in a real war zone, not a make-believe war.

City Showing Signs Of Guilt
Lima City Council tonight agreed to pay all the funeral expenses for 26-year-old Tarika Wilson. Wilson, in case you have been hiding under a rock, was shot to death by police during an ill-conceived, "high-risk" drug raid Friday evening. Also shot in that raid was her 13-month-old son, Sincere.
Police have been tellingly quiet on what happened, refusing to name the officer or explain why the woman was shot.
City Council's action tonight tells us the city knows the shooting was wrong. However, paying for the funeral expenses is little solace to six children who no longer have a mother thanks to overzealous police officers who risk the lives of others just to arrest someone with a little bit of drugs.
