Media is plural and requires the plural verb "are."
And it is not Obama's race that is scary, it is his ultra-liberal positions.

I haven't seen such media hype since the Beatles first came to America!
Are Matthews and Carlson talking about Obama or the hottest chick in the world?
TLJ, you are right about Matthews, he is a freak, he talks about Obama and Deliverence in the Biblical sense,if Obama gets elected we'll be getting Deliverence alright, and in the background we will be hearing Dueling Banjos.

usage The singular media and its plural medias seem to have originated in the field of advertising over 70 years ago; they are apparently still so used without stigma in that specialized field. In most other applications media is used as a plural of medium. The great popularity of the word in references to the agencies of mass communication is leading to the formation of a mass noun, construed as a singular <there's no basis for it. You know, the news media gets on to something — Edwin Meese 3d> <the media is less interested in the party's policies — James Lewis, Guardian Weekly>. This use is not as well established as the mass-noun use of data and is likely to incur criticism especially in writing.
So I guess it could be used either way. It is just like the word "monies" that everyone uses today. It just doesn't sound correct. Thanks for the insight.
You have to admit that the Ultra-Conservative policies that we have experienced the last 8 years have put us in this economic hole we are in now. I believe you have some number statistics flashing on your website as the Gross Natl' debt and all the young men and woman we have lost to the Bush war are increasing by the second. As far as Media hype isn't that what an election is all about? I am sick of it already..but that is what the mute button is for.

If I were "the media" coverage would actually be fair and balanced and you would actually be armed with facts instead of liberal propoganda. And you would be hearing about all the candidates who can mathematically win and not just those from the puppet master Republican and Democratic parties.

Maybe you should read, Protecting McCain, Pounding Obama, by Brent Budowsky, over at Consortiumnews.com? Obama will win, like it or not. Or maybe you should spend more time, telling us whats right about an (I) or (L), instead of wasting time trashing people,
that you dont like?

If you want to be a liberal, that is fine. But don't pretend you care about having a free country, because you can't support liberal policies and a free country at the same time. They are opposites.

I am not defending ultra-conservatism because I don't think that is what we have. Bush is simply a liberal war hawk. Conservatism, when done properly, means reduced spending, reduced taxes and reduced government. That is the key to a great, and free, nation. Bush, on the other hand, has destroyed the economy with his excessive spending and illegal wars. And the liberal Democrats are complicit by allowing it to happen.
